Estate, like real estate? Does it have anything to do with that?
The simple answer, is yes and no. Your estate includes any properties you may own, as well as your car, your bank account, your dog, anything that you are owner of. An estate plan is the cumulation of all the documents and preparations that serve to protect you and your estate's future.
Now that we know this, what exactly does an estate plan consist of? How do I know if I need one?
We believe that every American needs to have the ability to make major life decisions for yourself instead of letting others make them for you. When we don't have a plan set in place, it's just like letting a random person you meet on the street, choose your career for you. They do not know you, they do not know what you value in life, the things you like or dislike, or anything about your past. They look at what they see in that exact moment, and make their best guess. This is exactly how the state handles probate. For those with minor children, this could even include their lives.
